How to travel from Bangkok Airport to Thong Sala on Ko Phangan

Cheapest, most comfortable, and simplest ways to travel to Koh Phangan.
  1. Airport to Khao San Road by bus for 90 Baht: Take Exit 7, go to the lowest Level, search for Bus S1.
  2. One (or more) overnight stay on Khao San Road: New Siam II - quiet location, good breakfast, no reservation needed.
Located only 5 minutes to the main pier Phra Arthit Pier (N13) in the Banglamphu district (including Khao San Road). From here you can take the Chao Phraya Express Boat and the Chao Phraya Tourist Boat to reach the main sights (Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Chinatown).
  3. Good and reliable travel agency on Khao San Road, wich we have been using for years::
    Nice Place Tour and Travel

74 Soi Chanasongkhram Phraathit rd. Phranakorn Bangkok Thailand 10200 (between Khao San Road and the New Siam II)
  4. Transfer by bus: Departs in the evening around 7 pm from Khao San Road (pickup by the travel agency staff) ← recommended, most cofortable, best value for money and you save one night's accommodation.
  5. Transfer by night train: Booking one or two days before departure necessary!
Take City Line A6 to Makkasan (Phetchaburi), then go to Metro BL11 and take the train to Krung Thep Aphiwat (Bang Sue) railway-station. There go to Gate 3 (long ways to walk, not recommended for those with a lot of luggage. Taking a taxi is the better choice here.).
  6. Transfer by airplane:
    a) To Surat Thani Airport, not recommended because of long witing times in the airport. Not really faster then the bus.
    b) To Koh Samui with Bangkok Air, most expensive, booking one or two days before necessary! Then it takes half a day to cross over to Phangan.
AI - assessment of our travel Recommendation:
This still reflects a classic budget backpacker route via Khao San Road in 2026. The bus + ferry combos from Khao San remain very popular and cheap (usually 800-1,200 THB total including ferry), and many agencies there offer reliable combined tickets with evening departures. New Siam II is still a well-known, budget-friendly guesthouse in the area with a pool and good reviews for its calm atmosphere despite the nearby nightlife.
